Recorded between Overcast! and The Lucy Ford EP, Headshots: Se7en falls right in the meat of Atmosphere's most groundbreaking work-and that's saying a lot considering many feel that the group is still heading towards their prime. Recorded on a four-track, the beats are surprisingly solid, though some of that is surely due to the digital re-mastering efforts. Though they are clearly only hints at what Ant would go on to produce with better equipment, they are far from embarrassing.
Slug sounds solid as ever, with Headshots: Se7en marking the point in his career where hindsight makes his previous throwaway raps more interesting, even if it is only to the approximately 100,000 paying fans that gave him the current bragging rights for highest sales from the underground. Few rappers ever get the opportunity to drop a rarities disc, especially not one that is actually worth a damn, and that fact alone makes Headshots: Se7en a victory.
