Dear Newmoanyeah,
I am Jesse M. of Denver Colorado. I am a 16 year-old with a very serious question. I just recently started seeing one of my best friends. Her name is Crystal. We have himmed and hawed whetheror not the relationship would work. But we have decided to start dating. Crystal is 17 and will turn 18 in a matter of days.
So my question to mam is if we stay together after she turns 18, will there be any legal issues? Most of the people I have talked to like immediate famliy have siad that as long as we are not having sex, that everything will be alright and she cannot get charged with statatory rape. But then I ahve my friends saying that if we stay togethor she could end up with a charge on her hands. I just wanted to know if we could stay togethor and if we do decide to have sex before I am 18 if we will run into any problems?
Sincerely,
Jesse M.

You, my friend, are in luck! Along with the IMDB and the Allmusic Guide, AgeofConsent.com is one of the web's most indispensable repositories of knowledge. I checked the page for your state (located at ageofconsent.com/colorado.htm) and discovered some heartening news. The money quote is this: "(1) Any actor who knowingly subjects another not his or her spouse to any sexual contact commits sexual assault on a child if the victim is less than fifteen years of age and the actor is at least four years older than the victim."
You say you're sixteen and your girlfriend is less than two years older than you. I'm no lawyer, but it sounds like you can go ball-deep in that piece until your coin bag runs out of change!
Now, if you'll excuse me, I've got to head to South Carolina.

It is indeed a very big step to start dating your best friend and it sounds like you both put a lot of thought into it before jumping into the relationship. Maybe you need to consider your motives in even asking this question. Let's look at the facts:
- You're a sixteen-year-old boy.
- You're asking about the legality of having sex with your slightly older girlfriend.
- You're thinking with your brain.
- About sex.
- You're a sixteen-year-old boy.
This is a sign that you don't actually want to have sex with this girl. My advice? Give it two years and see if you're still thinking about lawyers then.

Dude, you're just showing off. Age of consent in the state of Colorado is 15 y/o for male and 17 y/o for female. Just don't film it. Magically the age goes up to 17 if you wanted to throw in another male. That's why I'd advise to just stick with including more females in the act, as needed...fucking show off.

First of all, I don't think there should be an age limit when it comes to sex. People mature at different rates, so someone might be ready at 18, while someone else is ready at 28. Secondly, if there's a matter of a couple years, it shouldn't matter. Except...
Girl teenagers mature mentally and emotionally much faster than boy teenagers and though you are biologically two years apart, you're really mentally and emotionally fifteen years apart, and that's just gross.
