Quirky Melancholia
It seems some critics are touting Ad Frank as some kind of Morrissey-esque psuedo-retro-Pulp-ish artist. Okay, I'll buy that. But, I have to say that while I love Morrissey, I could do without Pulp. Despite my not liking Pulp, I really dig Ad Frank's latest release A Lotta Devotion.
Devotion is a collection of rarities and remixes. Me being a tremendous remix fiend probably helps the cause. In any event, Devotion is worth purchasing just for the new recording of "You've Been Walking Such a Fine Line Baby Such a Fine Line", quite possibly one of the most catchy and instantly memorable songs ever written. I do love a good hook.
Random Appearances
While surfing Frank's site, I stumbled across two tidbits of info that endear me further to the artist. First is that he appeared as a bike messenger in the Gigolo Aunts video for "Bloom." Second is that he appeared as a yuppie in a never released video for "I See" by Letters to Cleo.
