DC Comics Barbie Kicks Ass

Newmoanyeah Loves Pop Culture
Barbie CatwomanBack in 2000, Mattel tested the waters with a pretty cool Wonder Woman Barbie as part of the Barbie Loves Pop Culture Series (thank god she didn't come in a set with Ken-Kevin as Steve Trevor -- YeeW). Now they're back with three totally new comic book-related Barbies and another WW to get Barbie fans and comic collectors alike to freak out over.

First, Mattel will get you all worked up about how cool Catwoman Barbie is and then you'll have to spend a small fortune to get her. But, is she hot or what?!?! Barbie as a cat-suited criminal! 'Course, they'll underplay the facts that she's a thief and wildlife "eco-terrorist" -- oh yeah, she was a hooker for a while, too. Her outfit is a combination of many of her costumes. The cape is from her golden/silver age comic look. Her cowl (that's her mask to the lay folks) and her whip are pretty familiar to everyone from the 80s and 90s. She is one of the original "bad girls" and she makes a pretty sexy Barbie. They are planning to release this Barbie through comic shops and I am sure many Barbie dealers will be calling their local comic book guy to get shipments.

It's a bird, it's a plane... it's BARBIE!
Next, we will have a Supergirl, Batgirl and a new Wonder Woman to buy. They'll be around $25.00 instead of the $50.00 you'll have to shell out for Selina. Now, little girls can play with really cool strong-female-role-model Barbies. Wouldn't you rather be Supergirl or Batgirl instead of stewardess or a chick in a fancy dress? And now men have a reason to buy a Barbie and no one will call them Smithers.

Oh yeah, now Barbie can really kick G.I. Joe's ass!!

Top Ten Superhero Barbie's I'd like to have.

  1. Barbie as Catwoman from the Batman TV show.
I love Julie Newmar -- need I say more?

  2. Witchblade Barbie
She'd comes with clothes so you could have cop Sara and kick butt completely naked Sara.

  3. Scary Godmother Barbie
One of my favorite comics; those Halloween Barbies have nothing on Scary. They could make Ken into her sidekick Bug a Boo and one of the tiny Barbie girls could be Little.

  4. Lara Croft Barbie
    Barbie with DOUBLE GUN ACTION!!!

  5. Hawkgirl Barbie
    Look Barbie with wings!

  6. The new Batgirl
Okay, maybe this would have to be a Skipper doll.

  7. Storm Barbie
An African-American Barbie with white hair!

  8. Death or Delirium from the Endless
A tie for the eighth spot... I like them both a lot.

  9. Huntress
    'Nuff said.

  10. Prometha Barbie
Again, she could come with civvies and cool clothes to change into her alter-ego

Who would you most like to see as the lead in Joss Whedon's Wonder Woman movie?
Catherine Zeta-Jones
Eliza Dushku
Sandra Bullock
Aria Giovanni
Summer Glau
Eva Longoria
Evangeline Lilly
Lynda Carter
