Fashionably Late
The Brit-pop group Supergrass played the paradise in Boston a few weeks ago. With them were a few supporting acts whose names I didn't get because I didn't show up until the main act came on (so much for being a philanthropist of music). With my ego boosted a bit from arriving so fashionably late, I ascended to the balcony and watched the band take the stage. The lead singer, Gaz Coombes, appeared clad in all white and sporting big rockabilly sideburns.
It's about the music, man, not what they looked like.
Ok, ok. Supergrass does put on a good rock show; and an efficient one at that. There was a minimum of banter between songs, and they moved through an impressive number of songs. A good portion of the songs was off their new album, Life On Other Planets. There was even a guitar change between every song (the guitar tech was very busy). Supergrass also gets some nice sounds due to the presence of a solid keyboardist who, incidentally, looked like a mad scientist because of a strategically placed fan blowing his long hair all over the place. There were also some nice falsetto harmonies between the guitarist and bassist. The crowd obviously enjoyed the show, as a cheer of approval went up for nearly every song. There were definitely more then a few people there who considered Supergrass their pet band. So all in all, it was a quality concert, but why do I keep thinking of the singer's white outfit?
