I have been looking forward to this show for about a week now. If you missed it, go to their site. They didn't have a complete list up, as of the night the show, but I would assume it will be available soon. Here's what I thought of it…
If she doesn't scare you noEVILthing will.
I didn't expect to see any Disney characters make the list, so it was a pleasant surprise that the American Film Institute took these "cartoons" as seriously as regular movies. Congrats to The Queen (from Snow White) and Cruella DeVille! The biggest surprise for me was that "Man" (the hunter that killed Bambi's mother) made the list, even though he is never actually seen in the movie!
Shark vs. Alien
How could the Alien rank higher on the list than the Shark from JAWS? Both are just creatures living as nature intended. 'Course, along the way they end up eating and killing those stupid people who were in the wrong place at the wrong time.
But the reason I thought the Shark should have ranked higher is the fear factor. You really can get attacked by a shark, as opposed to an alien queen. It's a real fear.
The point that brings this home is the commercial shown during the show. You see all these people getting ready to get into all sorts of different pools but they are hesitating. At the end of the commercial they tell you that shark week is coming on the Discovery Channel. Now how cool was that!? You never even see a shark fin, hear the scary Jaws theme, or anything else that might invoke that "fear" until they tell you at the end what's to come. So, when you watch this commercial and shark week (one of my favorite weeks of the year), just remember who the better "villain" is!
Best of the Best
Of course James Bond and Darth Vader were high on the list and the Terminator robot made it as a hero and a villain! I was disappointed that Agent Smith from the Matrix didn't rank but Hans Gruber from Die Hard made it (but Die Hard hero John McClain didn't).
Dracula was the only of the Universal Movie Monsters to make the list. Of course Superman and Batman both made the list, however only one villain, The Joker, made it (Putting Jack Nicholson on the list twice).
I was starting to get worried as I didn't see Dr. Jones, but he made it in at #2. So, Harrison was on the list twice along with Jack and Arnold.
#1
The #1 villain is an easy guess: Hannibal Lecter. But, the #1 hero might not be one that a lot of people will know unless you've watched older movies or read your books. I'll make you work and look it up, it's a book that many of you might have read in high school, so there's the only clue I am going to give you.
I have to go buy some more DVD's now.
