Once again, while catching up on current events, I stumbled across a truly news-worthy article. A small group of people is telling AOL to stick their useless junk CDs where the CD-ROM drive don't shine.
No More CDs
www.nomoreaolcds.com is out to tell AOL we're tired of the junk mail! Their goal is to collect one million of the uselesss CDs that AOL sent out to the public and then dump them at AOL headquarters. They have a mission statement, an explanation of what got them started, and most importantly, information on where to send the disks. You can find out the latest count at the site as well (103,429 so far and growing). For those dedicated few who have sent them lots of disks, they post your personal tally with your name.
101 Uses for AOL CDs
Not only do you find out about the project at the site, but you can also see pictures of what people have made with the CDs. People have even sent pictures of the CDs with their pets; my favorite being the one with the CD in the litter box! And for those of you who are really creative, you can compose a haiku and have it posted. Here's one that I thought summed it up best:
"It came in the mail
Unsolicited, unwanted
It left in the trash"
So, what are you waiting for?
By the time you finish checking out the site, you realize just how much junk mail AOL sends out and you're ready to send in your own CD. Hell, might as well see how many you can get! All it will cost you is a few dollars in postage and a sense of pride and accomplishment in sticking it to Big Business. The site also offers great ways to collect AOL CDs without stealing them from the displays at Target and other stores.
So, what are you waiting for??? I think I'll have to start a collection with the staff! I know I have one AOL disk in a pile on the floor here by my computer. How many do you have?
