Nerd Nostalgia
Often, people think back nostaligically about their first date, first kiss, and first significant others. While scrambling for an additional article to fill this week's quota, I began reminiscing about my first geek crush: Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman. The more I thought about it, the more I realized that I was on to something relatively feature-worthy. And so, this week I'll present my top five earliest geek crushes. (And just to reaffirm that I'm not alone in this, go check out retroCRUSH's Babe Gallery.)
- Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman
I would imagine that many many many guys around my age were completely infatuated with Lynda Carter. And it wasn't necessarily how her body perfectly filled that sassy litle superheroine suit so much as the impractical costume itself. Sexy AND patriotic!
- Erin Gray as Colonel Wilma Dearing
Two words for you: blue jumpsuit. Sure, Wilma Dearing was as competant a pilot as Buck Rogers and sure she was pretty hot to begin with; but what put Erin Gray on this list was that skin-tight satin-y blue jumpsuit she wore when she wasn't in uniform. You know the one... with the full-front zipper? Oh yeah!
- Catherine Bach as Daisy Duke
While I wouldn't classify Dukes of Hazzard as a geek show, I had no choice but to include her as part of this short list. Any woman who wears cut-off short-shorts, makes country fried chicken, and drives a jeep is A-okay with me.
- Cheryl Tiegs as Cheryl Tiegs Poster
Adam Sandler once sung "I'll never get rid of my Cheryl Tiegs poster" as part of his Thanksgiving Song. I can only assume that he speaks of the famous Cheryl Tiegs/pink bikini poster. You might be asking right now, "How on earth does this classify as a geek crush?" I have some vague recollection that this poster was frequently advertised in some old comic books. To this day, I remember the image, though my memory of the picture is in a yellow-y b&w. You see, comics books from the late 70s/early 80s weren't truly full-color.
- Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia
As evidenced by the episode of Friends where Ross convinces Rachael to dress up as "Slave Leia" (from Return of the Jedi) for some bedroom fun, I'm OBVIOUSLY not the only guy who's thought about that skimpy outfit Jabba/George Lucas forced on Leia/Carrie Fisher. To futher illustate how NOT alone I am about Leia and her metal bikini, check out Leia's Metal Bikini.
Honorable mention: Cassandra Peterson (Elvira), Vampirella, Yvonne Craig (Batgirl), Julie Newmar (Catwoman), Deanna Lund (Valerie from Land of the Giants), Diana Rigg (Emma Peel), and any number of Star Trek femaliens Kirk got busy with.
