Fanboy What?
Fanboy Radio has been a running on the internet and on Dallas Fort Worth's KTCU for almost two years. They've recently passed the 100th episode, and one man is behind it all. This is an interview with that man.

So first things first. What's your name and Where are you from? |
| Scott Hinze: |
Scott Samuel Hinze, and I'm from Fort Worth, Texas... |
| NMY: |
Texas? And you survived by calling yourself a "Fanboy?" |
| SH: |
You bet! |
| NMY: |
So you've been a comics guy since you were a kid, right? |
| SH: |
No, not at all I first started collecting in middle school during the Image founding, Maximum Carnage and Death of Superman. But then left with everyone else due to the Spider-Clone and really boring content. |
| NMY: |
You apparently weren't aware of all the Variant covers. They made the content worthwhile! |
| SH: |
Riiight. Anyways. When my friends put Kevin Smith and Joe Quesada's Daredevil in front of me for the first time in late 1999, I fell in love. |
| NMY: |
That was the big moment for lots of us. |
| SH: |
After that point I started to collect every Marvel Knights issue, then came back to Spidey (even though it sucked -- but JRJR's art was good), Batman, Avengers, Thunderbolts, Thor, Iron Man, and a ton of classic trades my comic store guy enlightened me on... |
| NMY: |
So how'd you go from lapsed comic geek to successful radio show host? It must've been a hard sell to get KTCU (a campus radio station) to let you do such a niche show, no? |
| SH: |
Yeah, it was. |
| NMY: |
What'd you say to them? |
| SH: |
It started as an Electronica show that me and my buddy Josiah did. Then about twice an hour we potted down the music and talked about the latest comics. |
| NMY: |
I'm sure the club kids loved that. |
| SH: |
Actually, the only response from listeners we was "More comics, less music" We were both shocked. Josiah and I then created a demo CD (that eventually turned into FbR #1) and turned it into our current student Program Manager. He didn't even listen to it. He told us "No." We raised a fuss with higher-ups and showed off some of our response. In the confusion of the holidays, I slipped our first show into the playlist for Thanksgiving of 2001. That was our first broadcast. |
| NMY: |
So you scammed your way in, way to go! |
| SH: |
You know it. It was controversial too. Got us in trouble with the station's higher ups. They said Josiah crossed a line when he said "I could eat alphabet soap and crap a better comic book than Manga." |
Check back next week for part two of Newmoanyeah's interview with Fanboy Radio.
