Dragon*Con 2004 Here We Come
by Stephen Lin, Editor in Chief

Size Does Matter
Dragon*Con 2003I am, admittedly, no stranger when it comes to comic book and science fiction conventions. While, I don't attend cons anywhere near as regularly as I did when I was younger, I pretty much know what I can expect.

At least, that's what I thought until visited a Dragon*Con link that was listed on Fark. The magnitude of stylishly obsessive geekiness taken form in cosplay is just unreal. And THAT is why Newmoanyeah is going to try to be at DragonCon 2004.

What's the big deal?
I've seen, met, listened to, and gawked at the likes of Todd McFarlane, Chris Claremont, Marina Sirtis, and Adam West at previous conventions. And I've seen Romulans, Stormtroopers, and overweight Spider-Men frolicking admist the dealers. But I've literally never seen some of the stuff I saw while surfing photos from Dragon*Con 2003.

I'll give you a quick run down of some cool pics I found (click on the titles to open the photos in a new window):

  • The Angel
Warren Worthington III as The Angel from his days with the Defenders. Wow.

  • Black Widow
That's is exactly what Natasha Romanov would look like in real life! Gooooo KGB!

  • Strong Bad
Strong Bad rules. End of story.

  • Purgatori
She's very red and, uh, demon-like.

  • Scantily clad Stormtrooperette
That is definitely not Imperial issue Stormtrooper lingerie.

  • Supergirl
Hey look! It's our pal Alisa-chan!

  • Fett for California Governor
Only a hardcore geek would intentionally deace a perect Boba Fett costume with political humor.

  • Girl with creepy eyes in a black corset
Yeah, I really have no idea if she's supposed to be someone specific. Does it matter?

  • Shop smart... shop S-mart!
You've gotta figure, even a paper mache chainsaw must get heavy after a while.

  • Tomb Raiders
These gals look better than some of the official Lara Crofts I've seen.

  • Thundercats
Thundercats HOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! Cheetara's got a big yellow stick and Lion-o... well, more power to him.

  • Ghostbuster
I don't care WHAT that proton-pack is made out of... it's gotta be heavy.

  • Indy and the Fantastic Four
Really, when are you going to see Dr. Jones standing next to three of the Fantastic Four

  • Slave Leia and Red Sonja
You'll notice that Leia's costume is literally painted on.

  • Cobra
If you poke around, you'll see some other good photos with Destro, the Baroness, and Zarana!

  • Pac Man
Dude, I have no idea what this performance was about, but I wish I could've seen it.

Okay, I could go on for ages sharing other people's toxically geeky memories of Dragon*Con, but I won't. I'll just concentrate on getting Newmoanyeah there next year.
