Jackass Rock
CKY’s new record Infiltrate Destroy Rebuild continues the onslaught of fuzztones riffs and catchy melodies that first propelled them from the ranks upstart rock bands. CKY’s close relationship with the TV show Jackass would suggest that they similar to the hordes of punk bands that proliferate skateboard videos.
CKY, however, is less punk and more straightforward rock. Deron Miller’s consistently octave doubled vocals give the band a very distinctive sound. Actually, it could be one of the other band members singing the lower voice but either way it’s good for karaoke. Now everyone can sing along! There is even a good old "aaahhh aaahhh" chorus in the song "Shock & Terror."
Although CKY uses the same basic sound on all the tracks, save for "Close Yet Far," they spread it across a big enough variety of beats that whole album feels real cohesive. And after all, any band that dedicates an album to the memory of recently departed Death singer Chuck Schuldiner can’t be too bad, right?
