About Damn Time!
Alas, fans of the 80's Japanese import cartoon, Robotech, have been waiting for millenia for a decent game in which they could pilot a Veritech (a transforming robot/jet fighter). A number of shoddy games have come and gone, but none has even remotely bestowed the satisfaction that fanboys are seeking.
Until now.
Just last week, TDK Mediactive, released Robotech: Battlecry for the Xbox, Playstation 2, and the Ninetendo GameCube. While it isn't absolutely perfect, it's the best thing to come along yet and I love it!
You Can't Please Everyone
I've seen previews where people have complained that the levels are repetitive and that you simply don't get the sensation of speed. While to some degree this may be true, you do get many other things that more than make up for these relatively small deficiencies.
For example... remember that episode of Macross where Max Sterling encounters Miriya Parino at the video game parlor? Remember the imagery of those two cool animated vehicles, transforming and firing missles all over the place? Remember wanting to play that game? Go buy Battlecry.
The Cool Stuff
Transform your Veritech any time you want. Fire off wicked badass looking volleys of "drunken" missles. Feel like you're in the original cartoon within all the game's cell shaded glory. Re-live the Macross storyline that you loved so much as a kid.
If these features combined with the nearly-great gameplay aren't enough for you, then may the Robotech Masters damn you to Zentraedi hell where your skin will be burned off like so much used Protoculture!
Now, if only TDK will make a game based on the last third of the Americanized Robotech series... yeah, I want a New Generation game featuring kick-ass Cyclones and a Yellow Dancer soundtrack. Someone, please tell me this is going to happen... |
