D'oh!
Call it delayed reaction. Call it stupidity. Call it not-having-this-darn-website-running-properly-earlier. Call it what you will, it's still no excuse for not informing the public about this catchy debut release from rubyhorse.
Hooked Like a Fish Running a Website
I'll admit that it took me a few listens before I fully got into Rise. But, I'm now hooked to the ultra-memorable melodies and choruses of the album.
Rubyhorse delivers a wonderfully straight-forward, yet plenty groovy, rock album. They're not neo-metal or pop or electro-progresso-alterna-whatever. They're a straight-forward rock band hailing originally from Cork, Ireland and now Boston, MA.
Refreshing
You can hear subtle (and sometimes less subtle) U2 and The Verve influences in their music. You can also hear big sweeping Beatle-esque movements from time to time (see "Punchdrunk" featuring the late George Harrison on slide guitar). But fear not, rubyhorse has a very distinctive sound of their own that permeates the entire album.
Ballad, rocker, pseudo-dance track; everything on Rise is refreshingly rubyhorse all the way. |
