Xbox Xcitement
I was one of crazies that bought the Xbox when it first came out. Being a techie kind of guy, I was excited about the specs on the Xbox.
To this day, I have no regrets about purchasing the system. Games like Dead or Alive 3 and Hunter: The Reckoning have totally made the Xbox a worthwhile purchase. And the prospect of games like Dead or Alive 3: Xtreme Beach Volleyball and Robotech: Battle Cry have me foaming at the mouth.
Unfortunately
Unfortunately, not every game is a winner. In fact, I learned this lesson when I made my first series of games purchases during Xbox launch. The lesson is also known as Fuzion Frenzy.
Fuzion Frenzy is built to be sorta of a party game. Forty-some-odd mini-games to be played by up to four people simultaneously. Sounds great right?
While the concept is excellent, the delivery leaves much to be desired. Many of the games are boring and the game play is confusing at times. It is possible that most of the confusion comes from everything being SO DAMN SMALL on the screen. ACtually, the more I think about it, the more it's just plain ridiculous.
I've got a 27" TV. Not the hugest thing in the world, but then again, I've never had any problems playing ANY other games on it. Why is it that whenever I played Fuzion Frenzy, I found myself squinting, trying to figure out what the flying freak was going on?
Larger TVs don't help much, either. I've played on a massive HDTV and it still looked downright crappy.
The Moral
I love multiplayer games. I personally get TONS more use out of a multiplayer game than I do a solo adventure. But again, not every game can be a winner.
So, I guess the plain and simply moral of this is: don't buy lame multiplayer games.
P.S.
I actually sold the game months ago and put the money toward Hunter: The Reckoning. I felt like writing this article now just to warn people.
